David Allen
Two Exhibitions, Same Day
(Chicago, 1988)
I
Stieglitzs Photos
of the Young OKeeffee
Madonnas by dutch masters
went blind as Stieglitzs
camera eye trapped OKeeffee
against the New York sky
with eyes, above young breasts,
like those flowers, open, at rest.
II
Van Goghs Sunlight
Vague Van Goghs
astigmatic yellow
colored the pulses cry
tongue silent
to speak what no ear heard
in the sun bent madness
of southern France,
audible, for an instant,
on the canvas.
